Is It Time to Say Beddy-Bye to Your Mattress?
Sleeping well helps us to feel alert, think clearly and generally function as we would like. That’s why it’s so important to sleep on a mattress that is both supportive and comfortable. So if you’re losing sleep over an old mattress, it may be time to replace it. We discuss further in this post.
Restless Nights
An uncomfortable mattress is one of the main contributing factors of restless sleep. Research suggests that this can deprive you on average of one hour’s sleep every single night. It can also have the potential to result in drowsiness, irritability and a lack of mental sharpness.

Tell-Tale Signs
The lifespan of a mattress can be affected by many different factors. For instance, a lower quality bed is unlikely to last as long as a higher quality model. Similarly, a mattress that is used very regularly will generally have a shorter lifespan than one in a spare room that is rarely used. The maintenance and care that a mattress receives can also play a significant part in its longevity. Click on the following link for more information on how to care for your new bed.
However, the bottom line is that, at one time or another, a mattress will need replacing; and there are a number of tell-tale signs that can alert you to the fact that your mattress’s time is up.
So it might be time to Say Beddy-Bye to Your Mattress if
- You regularly wake up with aches, pains or stiffness in the morning (this could also be your pillow: find out more here.)
- You don’t sleep as well as you did a year ago.
- You have recently had a better night’s sleep in a bed other than yours.
- You frequently wake up and no longer need an alarm clock
- Your mattress sags, is lumpy or shows other visible signs of wear and tear.
- You have had your mattress for more than seven years.
Note: Buying a new mattress and placing it on an old base is not recommended.
