Is Your Pillow a Pain in the Neck?

Is Your Pillow a Pain in the Neck?

If you find that you often suffer from neck and shoulder pain, the culprit could be right in front of your face: it could be your pillow.

Finding the Right Pillow for You

There are a wide variety of pillow sizes and shapes available. What’s more, pillows can be filled with a range of different materials: from natural fillings to synthetic ones, or even a mixture of the two. This diversity can make it difficult to identify your perfect pillow.

A useful tip is to plump for one that, while you’re in your usual sleeping position, allows your shoulders and spine to be aligned as though you were standing up with correct posture. This should ensure that you are properly supported during the night.

Back or Side Sleeper?

Another important consideration is your preferred sleeping position. Are you a back sleeper or a side sleeper? Perhaps you sleep on your front. At Kaymed we cater for all three positions.

Our back sleeper pillow is slim, and, as such, ideally suited to those whose preference it is to sleep supine. This pillow is also suitable for people who prefer to sleep on their front.

Our side sleeper pillow, meanwhile, has a rather deeper design, and, therefore, is better suited to those who sleep on their side.

When to Replace Your Pillow

No matter how faithful a sleeping servant they have been, there comes a time in every pillow’s life when it needs replacing. This stage may come sooner for some than others, but the general rule of thumb is that you should replace your pillow after around two to three years of solid service. Some tell-tale signs that your pillow may need replacing include:

  • Flatness and loss of original height
  • Misshapen form
  • Lumpiness
  • Discolouration
