A Guide to Better Sleep

Sleep is a vital part of our everyday lives. A good night can help to set you up for a productive day ahead and allow you to fully recover from your exertions of the previous day. To help you enjoy great quality sleep on a consistent basis, we’ve put together the following guide – please read on to find out more.

Stick to a Schedule

Try to go to bed and wake up at around the same time every day, even at the weekend. Subconsciously this will help to regulate your body’s internal timing and help you to fall asleep when bedtime comes around.

A Guide to Better Sleep

Relax Before Bed

You should start winding down around an hour before you intend to go to sleep. This can comprise any number of calming activities, such as light reading, taking a cool shower and listening to relaxing radio programme. You should try to avoid things that can stimulate you such as bright lights, electronic devices and engrossing television. Caffeine should also be avoided up to six hours before going to bed.

Regular Exercise

Try to incorporate some kind of exercise routine into your day. Vigorous exercise is perhaps the most effective in helping you to sleep, but even light activity is very beneficial. You can exercise at any time during the day but try to avoid anything too energetic before bed.

Sleep on a Comfortable Mattress and Pillow

If you want to get a good night, it’s absolutely vital to sleep on a comfortable bed and pillow. Conversely, an old bed and lumpy pillow can not only reduce the quality of your sleep, but cause you to experience discomfort throughout your body, including neck pain and back ache.
