How to Choose the Best Pillow

People come in all different shapes and sizes, so it’s natural that we each require something different from our pillow. But with some many varieties available, how do you know how to choose the best pillow for you? In this post, we hope to shed some light on the matter – please read on for more information.

The Importance of Pillows

The average weight of an adult human head is a hefty 12 pounds (a bag of sugar weighs just 2 pounds). Without a pillow that offers the right support and alignment to our considerable craniums, we can experience discomfort in the neck, shoulders and back. A pillow that fails to offer requisite levels of support can also result in low quality or broken sleep. All in all, a good pillow is pretty important.

But what exactly do we mean by a good pillow?

6 factors that could be affecting your sleep How to Choose the Best Pillow

Choosing a Pillow

There are no hard and fast rules to choosing the best pillow; however, in general, a good pillow should allow your shoulders and spine to be aligned as though you were standing up with correct posture.

Someone who sleeps on their side will likely benefit from a deep pillow with plenty of padding. Meanwhile, people who sleep on their front or back usually find that a slimmer pillow suits their needs better.

Whichever pillow you plump for, it should be able to retain its shape while you sleep and give you constant support throughout the night.

Do You Need a New Pillow?

There comes a time in the life of every pillow, no matter how trusty it has been, when the product reaches the end of the road and needs replacing. Tell-tale signs that your pillow’s time is up include:

  • Regularly wake up with a stiff neck
  • Shoulder or back pain in the morning
  • Pillow has become flat and loss original height
  • Pillow has become misshapen lumpy or discoloured
