Disposal Services

One option is to contact your local authority to let them know that you’ve got a mattress that you would like to dispose of. Councils often have provisions for picking up larger items, although they do generally charge large fees for the service.

On the other hand, you may be able to find a mattress retailer that includes an old mattress disposal service in the price of a new product. They can make the pickup when they deliver your new mattress. The retailer should have the requisite expertise and facilities to then dispose of the old mattress in a safe and responsible manner.

Doing It Yourself

If you’ve got access to a vehicle large enough to carry the mattress, you can, of course, handle dispose of the mattress yourself. The local tip will certainly take the mattress, however, this option is not the most environmentally friendly. Statistics show that more than 7.5 million mattresses are thrown away every year. So to give the planet a bit of a helping hand, you can take the mattress to your nearest recycling centre. Here, the mattress will be taken apart and individual materials and pieces recycled.
