Buying a Bed – Getting the Best Bed for Your Budget
When buying a new mattress, ultimately the choice you make will largely depend on your budget. However, within this financial plan there are still decisions that you can make to ensure you find a mattress that suits you, as we discuss in this post.
Identifying What You Need
There are two main factors at play in terms of mattresses. These are support and comfort.
- Support is the term we use in the bed industry to refer to the resistance that the springs within a mattress provide against the weight of the person sleeping on them.
- Comfort, meanwhile, relates to the feel of a bed, such as whether it is soft or firm.

The support you require from a mattress is a factor that is largely decided for you by your weight. Comfort, however, is more of a subjective choice. If you prefer a firmer mattress you may be able to get more out of your bed by buying a mattress that has fewer comfort layers contained within it. However, even if you like a softer bed there are still ways to ensure you don’t spend over the odds.
Visit and Talk To a Bed Specialist
A retailer who specialises in beds and has a wide range of models covering all of the comfort, firmness and budget criteria, will hopefully provide the best place to make your purchase (and maximise your budget). By seeing and importantly trying the various bed options you will be able to identify the best bed for your budget. Remember that typically the more that you pay the higher the quality of the bed and greater durability. If you are buying a bed for a spare room that will only be used once or twice a year then build that into your budgeting.
