Extra Long Bed – Which Beds Offer Extra Length?

Sometimes, it can be a bit of a tall order fitting in your bed, however, the good news is that there are standard sizes in the UK that offer extra long bed dimensions. In this post we take a look at these beds in further detail, as well as discussing who could benefit from them.

Do You Need an Extra Long Bed?

When determining the size of bed that you require, there are a couple of simple rules of thumb that you can refer to in order to help you make your assessment. When it comes to width, you should be able to lie on your back with your elbows out without coming into contact with anyone else in the bed or reaching the edge of the mattress.

The key rule in terms of deciding whether you need an extra long bed or not is that a bed should be between 10 and 15 centimetres longer than the tallest person sleeping in it. With this in mind, if you are over around 5 feet 11 inches tall, you may benefit from looking for a bed with a bit of extra length.

Which Bed Sizes Are Extra Long?

There are two types of standard sizes of beds in the UK that could reasonably be considered as being extra long. These are the king size and the super king size beds. A king size bed measures 200 centimetres in length and 150 centimetres in width. These measurements are equivalent to around 6 feet 7 inches in length and some 5 feet in width.

A super king size bed again measures 200 centimetres in length but offers a little more in terms of width, measuring 180 centimetres from one side to the other (around 5 feet 11”).
