Back Sleepers

People who sleep in the supine position need a bed that provides support for the lower back. Generally speaking, therefore, a back sleeper will often find a neutral or slightly firmer mattress most comfortable. Conversely, a very firm mattress can put stress on the lower back, while a mattress that is too soft will not provide enough support.

Front Sleepers

This sleeping position can put pressure on your back and spine, resulting in backache and discomfort. In general, people who prefer to sleep in this position can find a neutral to slightly firmer mattress to be most comfortable. A mattress that fits this profile can help to offer the support required to maintain the correct alignment of the spine when sleeping on your front.

Side Sleepers

On the other hand, those who sleep on their side may have a preference for a softer setup. When lying in this position, your body is not in a straight line. A mattress on the softer end of the scale may be better equipped to adapt to these contours and allow your body to align correctly. Furthermore, a softer mattress can help to reduce the pressure on the weight bearing portions of the body, such as the hips and shoulders.
