Practical Tips To Help You Sleep During Hot Weather

Many of us welcome the warm and sunny weather (especially when we are on holiday) but it can have a negative impact for some who find that it disrupts their ability to sleep. In this article we will look at 5 practical steps you can take to help you keep cool in bed on a hot summers night.

Top Tips To Help You Keep Cool At Bedtime

Ideally bedrooms should be at a temperature around 16 – 18 degrees Centigrade (60 – 65 degrees Fahrenheit) so on a balmy summer’s evening what can you do to get cool

Practical Tips To Help You Sleep During Hot Weather

Tip 1 – Get additional cooling from your fan

  • Use a fan and put a tray of ice and a little water in front of it to cool the air even more. Alternatively get a couple of “plastic drinks bottles and fill them with water and then place in a freezer so they get cold (but not frozen solid)  and place these in front of the fan

Tip 2 – Open / Shut

Open windows and doors to create a cool draught, but keep curtains or blinds shut during the day to keep the sun out

Tip 3 – Cooling bedding

Take your pillow cases and place in the fridge before bedtime. Note always a good idea to make sure that your fridge shelves are both empty and clean (the last thing you want is a sticky pillow case)

Tip 4 – Cool yourself

Take a cool shower before bedtime to lower your core body temperature. For those with longer hair who require a hairdryer to dry their hair it may be best to avoid getting wet hair. Drink plenty of cold water during the evening and keep a a glass by the bedside. Additionally fill a hot water bottle up with ice cold water , ensure that you put a suitable cloth cover around the bottle

Tip 5 – Space for cooling

Hot weather can be a nuisance when it comes to bed time, causing havoc when it comes to getting to sleep. This can be made worse if you share a bed, so make sure your bed is big enough for two people so you can sleep without disturbing each other.
