Pressure Relief Bed For A Better Sleep

Pressure Relief Bed

In this article we will focus on the benefits of a Pressure Relief Bed in relation to sleeping well with lower back pain

When you have lower back pain, often the pain doesn’t cease when you go to bed. Unfortunately there can be a vicious cycle of back pain and sleep problems that contribute to each other. For many people it is difficult to sleep well when your back hurts. And sometimes your back seems to hurt more because you’re not sleeping well. We have listed below some simple steps that might help you get a better rest  in bed, even when you have lower back pain symptoms.

Support Your Lower Back While in Bed

First ask your self  these questions

  • Do you often wake up with lower back pain?
  • When you stop at a hotel do you sleep better on a hotel mattress?
  • Is your existing mattress showing signs of wear?
  • The Sleep Council suggests that you inspect and evaluate your mattress approximately every five years to see if it has worn in a way that might be affecting your sleep . Over a five to seven year period of time you may need to change your mattress to achieve optimal comfort and support. In a March 2008 a Journal of Applied Ergonomics study, identified that over sixty percent of people reported significant improvements in lower back pain after changing to a new mattress.

A new mattress could be a significant element of your pressure relief bed’ so it is recommended that you try out a number of options. Here is our proposed approach

  • When in the bed store identify the bed options you want to try
  • Take off your shoes (you don’t want to damage or mark the mattress – even if it does have a protective sleeve on)
  • Lie down in your favourite sleeping position, and spend time resting.
  • Essentially make sure that the mattress supports you well enough to maintain your spine in the correct position.
