Why Cheap Beds on the Internet Aren’t Always What they Seem

When looking for a new bed, there are a lot of options available. So many, in fact, that it can be difficult to know where to start your search, but most people begin online. Here, in the digital market place, you have thousands of retailers at your fingertips rather than having to traipse across town.

Once you have narrowed your choices down to a few products that you think will fulfil your requirements, it can be tempting to then look for something very similar, but at a fraction of the price. However, this can be a very risky way of buying a bed.

Why Cheap Beds on the Internet Aren’t Always What they Seem

Beware Untrustworthy Bed Sellers

There are plenty of websites that offer thousands of high quality mattresses at knockdown prices; however, unless you buy from a reputable bed seller you really don’t know what you’re getting. If the price of a bed seems too good to be true, unfortunately, it often is. The bed may be faulty, unsafe and even unhygienic.

So how can you be sure that you’re buying from a reputable source?

Look for the Tick

The trick is to look for the tick of the National Bed Federation.

Also known as the NBF, this organisation regulates trading standards within the bed industry. All members of the NBF must adhere to strict criteria pertaining to quality, safety, hygiene and more. Ensuring consumers get the bed they have been promised.

But that shouldn’t be the end of your search for a bed.

Try In Store

Even when buying a product from an NBF registered retailer, we would advise against purchasing your bed online. The only real way to know if you’re getting a bed that is going to fit your requirements is to try it out in store.

To properly test a bed out, you should locate a shop which has your chosen model in stock. After removing uncomfortable clothing, such as belts, shoes and jewellery, lie in the bed for at least ten minutes. Adopt your usual sleeping position, and take note of how the bed suits your body. Is your spine aligned? Are you comfortable? Do you feel supported?

Worth the Effort and the Money

Buying a bed can seem like a long and winding road at times. However, securing a high quality bed that meets your requirements is worth the effort. And if you’re concerned about the price, try to consider a mattress on a cost per night basis. High quality beds often work out cheaper of the long run so are well worth the investment.
