Double Bed King Size – Complete Size Guide

A double bed king size mattress is a type of large mattress, generally suited to couples. There are two variations of this type of mattress, the king size and the super king size. If you’re looking for a mattress of this size it can be useful to know the dimensions of each variety to help understand which one would best suit you and your individual requirements.

Double Bed King Size and Super King Size – Dimensions

King Size

The Kaymed king size mattress measures 5 feet in width and over 6 feet 6 inches in length. In metric terms this equates to 150 centimetres in width and 200 centimetres in length. Other names that you may often hear for this size of mattress is a ‘queen’ (chiefly in America) and a ‘wide double’ (chiefly in Japan).

Super King

Even greater in size is the super king. This mattress measures 6 feet in width by more than 6 feet 6 inches in length. These dimensions are equal to 180 centimetres in width by 200 centimetres in length.

Double Bed King Size – Which King Is Fit for You?

When choosing a mattress a general rules that can be used guidance

  • Generally it should be at least 10 centimetres longer than the tallest person sleeping in it.
  • Anyone sleeping in the bed should also be able to lie with their elbows pointing outwards without coming into contact with anything.
  • With that in mind, both the king and super king size mattresses would be suitable for a person up to 6’3” in height.
  • The super king, meanwhile, would be suited to larger couples or those who simply value their space and have the space in the bedroom for a bigger bed
