Bed Double Size – Is This the Right Size Bed for You?
Whether it’s sleeping or just relaxing, we spend a lot of time in bed. This makes it vitally important to get the right bed for you. In this post we take a look at double bed size – what are the measurements? Who is this bed suited to? What type of mattress you can get in this size?
Double Bed Size (inches / centimetres)
A double bed measures 4 feet 6 inches in width by 6 feet 3 inches in length. This is equivalent to 54 centimetres by 75 centimetres. To put this in context, a single bed size measures 3 feet in width by 6 feet 3 inches in length, or 36 centimetres by 75 centimetres. So while the same length, the double is considerably wider than a single bed.
Who Does A Double Bed Suit?
There are no hard and fast rules to buying a bed; however, there are rules of thumb that can be useful guides. In terms of bed size, the received wisdom is that a bed should be at least 10 centimetres longer than the tallest person sleeping in it. Furthermore, everyone sleeping in the bed should be able to lie with their elbows out without touching anyone else. Using this rough guide should ensure that there is enough room for any movementsduring the night to ensure that all parties get a good sleep. A double bed, therefore, would suit an average sized couple or a single sleeper who prefers extra room.
