Is Your Bed NBF Approved
National Bed Federation (NBF) Approval
Buy a mattress made by an NBF member
The law on bed safety regulations are well established and there to protect the consumer from unsafe, unhygienic, or non fire retardant materials. Kaymed are members of the NBF and strongly recommend that you only buy products manufactured by an NBF member; even if your final choice is not a Kaymed product. Look for the NBF logo or visit the website (www.bedfed.org.uk) to clarify that the manufacturer is a member before you buy.
About The NBF
The National Bed Federation (NBF) is a leading recognised trade association representing UK based manufacturers of beds, mattresses and their suppliers. The NBF was founded almost one hundred years ago in 1912. Currently its members account for about three quarters of the total UK bedding turnover. Education of the trade and consumers is a major role of the NBF. As the UK’s leading authority on beds and mattresses, it is regularly consulted by retailers and the press. Other organisations who consult with the NBF include
- Trading Standards departments
- Citizens Advice Bureaux
- Health Authorities
- Hotels
- Schools, Colleges and Universities
NBF helping Consumers
Each year, numerous consumer enquiries are answered by the NBF. As well as answering questions it has a number of bed and mattress leaflets that are in constant demand. These include publications including:
- How to go about buying a bed and mattress
- How to look after after a bed and mattress
A positive stance to industry standards
The NBF has an excellent reputation for taking a positive stance towards industry standards, particularly where they affect or have impact on the consumer.
The NBF has historically taken the initiative on several important safety aspects, an example of this would be playing a major role in ensuring that beds are less of a fire hazard. Long before any legislation involving beds was even contemplated the NBF introduced its own voluntary code for members on cigarette ignitability resistance. Importantly the NBF does not operate any conciliation, independent inspection, or consumer legal services nor is it a regulatory body.
